Karen Korab (USA)

"I am a red toy breeder in Illinois. This lovely color has been maligned as fading, skittish and crazy.  In history, with a tiny gene pool this might have been true, but red poodle breeders have made incredible strides in the last 100 years.
I would like to add my voice to the valiant effort to get these beautiful poodles recognized by the FCI.

Attached is a picture of my Nanjac Marlis Wild Irish Rose.  Pixie has 12 points and 1 major.  She is PRA "A"  and Knees certified as clear.  We should have her finished shortly and expect to breed her in 2006. She is from a large, illustrious family of red toy poodles in the United States and we are very proud of her."

" Breeding for more than ten years the apricots in Belgium, I think I may say that it will be good to have some new blood in the lines. At the last years of breeding apricots, I discovered that they started to be very sensitive for skin problems, ........and because in Belgium it is not alowed to cross colors, it is very difficult to find some good lines to breed with, without any conection of the once  I had,......to find a solution for these genetic disorder. So hooray for some fresh blood,.....

And for me the color is less important, first health, character, body and movement and then color,......at the end it is not the color that makes the poodle,.....its the dog himself,.....regardless what kind of color he or she has."

"I would like to join the Petition. I have a kennel of apricot, red and black dwarf and toy poodles. I used red color producers in my breeding program, and due to that I got dwarf and toy poddles of modern color with beautiful heads and good movement.

I am sending the picture of Shalunia iz Tverskoy Gammy, she is 9.5 years old at the picture, as well as the picture of her and her apricot daughter Russian Champion Karamelka iz Tverskoy Gammy".

"My name is Tamara Potapova, I am a veterinarian and a graduate student in Cell Biology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

For many years, Poodles have been my passion and I have been involved in grooming and showing Poodles of all varieties. However, I am more familiar with the health issues in the breed and some aspects of the molecular nature of genetic inheritance.

Speaking of the red coat color, there is no known significant association of this trait with any diseases, undesirable conformation or temperament. There is no fault to it, other than it is too beautiful. Therefore, to exclude the red color from the FCI standard seems like an unreasonable and unfair decision based solely on a conservative look on the breed. This promoted the loss and dissolution of the gene pool of the red Poodles in Europe and did not help the breed at large at all. Therefore, the average conformation quality seen in red Poodles today should not be blamed on the color, but rather on the lack of the organized breeding. I believe that the commitment of the breeders around the world would quickly promote appearance of high quality red Poodles if the breeders shall not encounter repressions such as non-acceptance by the FCI. Rehabilitation of the red color will do no harm to the breed, yet bring out beautiful dogs who as of today are denied for being red.

Good luck, I hope we can pull it off."

Per and Andi Laerkegaard (Denmark)

We have two poodles, an apricot standard, and a red standard. We are planning to breed our girls, and would like to join the petition for recognition of red color.

We send the pictures of both dogs, the apricot one, and the red one.

Our red standard bitch is only 11 monts old, and is a really beautiful dog. She comes from Champagne D´or poodles, we went from Denmark to Germany to buy her. There are not many apricot standards in Denmark, and I think we have the only really red one in this country."
