Piccadilly Poodle (Switzerland)

PICCADILLY'S SPARKLING FIRE (Dexter)

More than 25 years ago I decided to breed an apricot color which doesn't fade. Therefore my first prefix was 'BELAPRI' - later I changed it to PICCADILLY'S since I started to breed other colors, too. At that time it wasn't easy to breed apricot, especially for improving the color. There was no good color around which did not fade to cream after a few years.

Then, about ten years later, I got in touch with 'Solnes' kennel in Norway and I bought my first true apricot colored dwarf dog: EUGENIOS PER SOLNES EVERYWHERE - a so called 'red'. He was a crack: where ever he appeared people collapsed. And he passed on his beautiful color. I made him up to a multi champion - only one judge disqualified him because of his dark color.  The color of this dog came from American bloodlines. I started to read the 'Poodle Review' and 'Poodle Variety'. And there I found new informations and ideas how to realize my dream.

Meanwhile I owned my first standard poodle bitch CHAMPAGNE D'OR IVONNE - she was a medium apricot and faded to almost a cream. When she was 4 years old I decided to breed her and flew to the States where my friend had seen a lovely colored apricot dog: ODYSSEY'S RISING SUN. And with this breeding I imported the red standard poodles to Europe. The result was a litter of 7 puppies: 2 light apricot, 3 apricot and 2 red. I sold the red bitch PICCADILLY'S FLORIDA GOLD to a friend. She bred her once and got GOLDEN AKIM VON BRIWEHBU and GOLDEN ASKIA VON BRIWEHBU, both red. Akim appears in many pedigrees. since he was used quite often because of his beautiful color. Out of the same litter I showed PICCADILLY'S FLORIDA SAMBA, a light colored bitch. She became a multi champion but was never bred.

Last year again I flew to USA to continue my work in improving the apricot color in standard poodles. I was lucky to buy back PICCADILLY'S FLORIDA GOLD and her daughter GOLDEN ASKIA VON BRIWEHBU from my friend. When both came in season I decided to have both bred to Ch. FARLEY'S D I AM MARCELLO. I got 16 (!) puppies, 8 from each bitch. The colors were 10 dark apricot/red and 6 apricot/light apricot.
3 of them are going to be shown: PICCADILLY'S SPARKLING FIRE (Dexter) and PICCADILLY'S STAR ATTRACTION (Morgain) out of Piccadilly's Florida Gold x Cello and PICCADILLY'S STAR ALLIANCE (Tristan) out of Golden Askia von Briwehbu x Cello.

Now I am planning another breeding with ASKIA. My goal is to improve quality without losing the color.

Since we are able to do DNA analyses on the colors this will help a lot. I suppose that poodle breeders know about how colors 'work' in poodles. It is known that the 'white-cream-apricot-red' gene lies on the same allele. More information can be found on http://www.vetgen.com/poodcolor.html I think it is a MUST for all poodle breeders and clubs get acquainted with this information. It will open the eyes!

Sincerely
